Penang State Government would like to organize a series of Merdeka Countdown events in conjunction with the 51st National Day on 30th of August 2008 at Komtar Pedestrian Mall and its surrounding area. Few roads beside KOMTAR will be closed during National Day eve.

This is the first biggest Merdeka countdown activities ever held in Penang. Penang State Government is bringing these activities to the Penang Citizen, and it is consider as a part of Penang future developing plan.

After calculation, we need RM700,000 to prepare for this event and hope this will become a new started historical in Penang.

Initially, we need to raise the fund to make this event happening. Some pre-design sponsorship categories are fixing with the particular fees.

In our presentation/email we need cash sponsor (amount are negotiable), we also have booth rent for Merdeka Eve Carnival(Start from 10am-midnight), and advertise in our Merdeka Eve event booklet.

Dearest, we need your hand to make this interesting yet patriotic events happened in Penang. We need your support! Your support will be most appreciated.

Objective:

• To celebrate national independent day.
• To prove the contribution of new ruling party.
• To gather and share the happiness and pride with the citizen.
• To promote Penang’s distinguishing feature.
• To celebrate Georgetown selected as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• Some propose activities will support this campaign after launching,
  • To collect the thumb print among the Penang citizen during the “2008 Merdeka Spirit @ Penang” Road Show.
  • We will try to set up the collection counter at every single corner in Penang such as shopping mall, sponsor’s booth, petrol station and etc.
  • All collected thumb print will display during the countdown day. Additionally, the collected thumb print will design as the Penang state shape in the map and use it as the backdrop for the countdown show.
  • Furthermore, we will try to apply this campaign to be recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records and witness Penang as a pioneer as a patriotic state.

• 4 road show will held at Shopping Complex, tourist hot spot, or even market to promote “2008 Merdeka Spirit @ Penang”.
• At least one theme car will provide in order to coordinate with this function.
• Additional promotional activities will coordinate with the sponsors.
• Local artistes & Emcee involved.

Merdeka Spirit Countdown Jamboree Schedule

30th August

0600 – Bicycles team departure to travel all around the island (with torch) start
from the penang bridge.
1000 – Carnival start.
1800 – Return of the bicycles team.The cyclists will pass the torch to the government representative and officially start the “Merdeka Spirit Countdown Jamboree”

1800 - The bicycles team return, pass the torch to the government representative and officially start the countdown jamboree.
1815 – Traditional Performance (3 Major Race in Malaysia)
1900 – Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, 24 Season Drum, Indian performance, Malay Performance
2000 – Local authorities performance (Selected Primary school, Secondary School, City Hall members to perform)
2100 – Arrival of Penang Chief Minister Mr. Lim Guan Eng ushering by three race welcome ceremony.
2115 – Penang CM present the speech.
2130 – Penang CM present the souvenir to all the related authorities
2145 – Malaysia Book of Records present the certificate (Merdeka Spirit Campaign) to Penang CM.
2200 – Concert start (Three race Malaysia artistes are invited to do the performance)
2345 – Inviting VVIP and VIPs to stage (stand by for fireworks countdown session)
0000 – Fireworks session

31st August
0015 – Concert resume
0100 – End of “Merdeka Spirit Countdown Jamboree”

Bicycles Team (14 + 2 members)
Objective

• The bicycle team members will differently carrying the torch, Malaysia’s flag and 14 states’ flag to travel all over the island.
• The team will stop over at some pre-design station to promote and encourage the citizen to participate the jamboree.

The team estimating will reach the final destination approximately 1800 to pass the torch to the government’s representative
