Plenitude Penang International Dragon Boat Festival 2011 will be held on 11th & 12th June 2011 at Teluk Bahang Dam, Penang. This annual renowned event is jointly organized by Penang State Tourism Development & Culture, Penang International Dragon Boat Festival Committee and Penang Dragon Boat Federation Committee.

This year total of 28 teams consist of 15 Malaysia teams (Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah and etc.) and 11 foreign teams from Macau, Hong Kong, Australia, UAE, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Guam) will be competing in the race.

Beside the exciting races, there will be 8 teams of school band performance, 24 drums performance, and entertaining novelty such as Teh Tarik Competition will be carried on throughout the event days. Do come and join us to witness this exciting traditional event!

Wesak Celebrations

Wesak is the most important of the Buddhist festivals and is celebrated on the full moon in May.

It celebrates the Buddha’s birthday, and, for some Buddhists, also marks his birth, enlightenment, and death.

In Penang during the festival, Buddhists will visit our local temples for services and teaching, and will give offerings to the monks of vegatarian food, candles and flowers.

More than 10,000 pilgrims from 35 Buddhist associations are expected to throng Burma Road to take part in Wesak Day procession.

The float and candle light procession normally will cover 7km distance. It will start from the Malaysia Buddhist Association in Burma Road and proceed to Jalan Pangkor, Jalan Kelawei, Lorong Burmah, Jalan Burmah, Peel Avenue, Jalan Macalister, Jalan Anson, Lorong Madras before returning to Burma Road.
